A pool right in your backyard is a great way to get some extra exercise. There have been all kinds of studies done lately about how we should be getting outside and moving more. Why not try some new exercises in your brand new pool?
Just simple swimming in your pool is a great form of exercise. Did you know that laps can burn up to 900 calories per hour if you are swimming vigorously and up to 600 calories if you are more laid back? There is a reason why swimmers are in such great shape, and you could be doing some of your own right in your backyard.
Treading water can burn up to 900 calories when done at a fast pace, and up to 400 calories at a more relaxed pace. Head for the deep end and put those legs to good use. It will help to strengthen all of your swimming muscles, plus will give your heart a good pace and increase your resistance.
People with joint pain often have a hard time finding an exercise that works for them. Water provides a very low-impact medium with lots of resistance that makes walking in the water a great choice of exercise. Have you ever tried to slam your foot down in a pool? You really can’t. The resistance of the water makes things cushioned and gives your joints some needed rest while still being active and getting your heart pounding. You can burn up to 700 calories per hour just by walking around your pool.
Pool Lunges And Squats
Lunging while under water gives even more resistance than regular dry lunges. More resistance means that more calories are being burnt. Up to 600 calories can be burnt each hour doing lunges in your pool. Do them in place or lunge all the way around your pool. Now mix it up with lunges and squats and you’ve got yourself an entire workout!
